How does the ant guard work?
A
hook at one end of the ant guard attaches to the hanger or hook where
you are hanging the feeder and the other end of the ant guard attaches
to the hummingbird feeder. Between the two hooks of the ant guard is
the baffle with a base. Inside the baffle is a poison only the ants
have access to. When the ants climb onto the hanger, they must climb
down the outside of the baffle towards the feeder. They then are forced
to climb inside the baffle in order to reach the nectar inside of the
feeder. When the ants reach the poison it creates a barrier making it
difficult for the ants to reach the nectar inside the feeder. The ant
guard shown in the above pictures should be replaced every season.

The hummingbird feeders built in ant moat prevents
ants from reaching the nectar in the feeder. To reach the feeder the
ants must go through the ant moat, which is filled with water. The
water prevents the ants from reaching the nectar, because ants do not
swim.
The best hummingbird feeders to buy are the ones that you can hang. Make sure you clean and scrub the entire hummingbird feeder one or two times a week to keep the birds healthy. Cleaning the feeder will attracts more birds to your feeding station.
